Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire resides in a sleepy part of Montreal Island known as West Island. Many people who don't know about the place mistakenly think that the West Island extends westward from Montreal. In fact, this is not the case. West Island includes everything westward from that city Lachine. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel lived in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. She had a dream to become a dancer, but an increase in her height meant that she literally outgrew her dance partner. In an article published in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6'1 inch. When I surpassed my male counterpart, I stopped. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. In the case of Brugel, it was the encouragement from her drama teacher at high school that led her in the direction she wanted. Her teacher invited her to audition for a part in the school's production. The school's production was a success and she was selected to play the principal character of Anne of Green Gables after she tried out. She was awarded the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program, where she graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts. For the past twenty years, the roles played by Brugel on TV and the big screen have been varied. Her role as Rita from the award winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most memorable. Brugel is the only Canadian actor on the show in Season 1 which was viewed only at times.
